Wellington City Council granted Acurity Health Group resource consent on the 7 March 2018 for the $100 million plus re-development of Wakefield Hospital. The new private hospital will offer patients from central New Zealand access to some of the most advanced medical services and treatment in the country, showcasing the latest medical technologies. The existing Wakefield Hospital made way for a new complex, which has significantly exceeded the latest seismic codes. The hospital was completed in stages. Stage one commenced with the construction of medical consulting suites, a café, medical imaging and a stunning new atrium that will form part of the main entrance.
